We believe that art is not just about the ability to draw or paint well. It is also about developing keen awareness of self, others and the world.
Your child will learn the value of exploration and diversity through exposure to a variety of art materials and concepts. They will also build creative problem-solving skills by innovating their own techniques for art expression, for example, by re-purposing or improvising with everyday objects.
He/she will be able to relate artistic concepts to their lives. For example, they will be taught how to identify shapes, patterns, textures and colours in situations and how to represent size and perspective in composition. We may also start the lesson off with a story and engage them in a discussion about their own experiences.
We encourage our students to use the techniques they learn as an outlet for their imaginations, as tools for discovery and expression. They will be assisted to reflect on his/ her feelings/ intentions and engage in critiques. This helps to build up their emotional and social awareness.
Your child will be given the opportunity to inject his/her own interpretations into each lesson, even as they are required to follow guidelines and fulfill common objectives. Our students will cultivate discipline in classroom etiquette and expressing themselves responsibly.
Our therapeutic approach also means that we often adopt a facilitator’s style to conducting lessons, to encourage our students’ confidence in themselves as persons and in their abilities and to inspire teamwork.
Each child is unique. Therefore, we make an effort to tailor, where practicable our lesson delivery to meet their individual needs. We will suggest and encourage various methods for them to achieve their highest personal standards for their creations, according to their style, pace and abilities.
We make an effort to be aware of the children’s emotional state when they come to class, placing first importance on the well-being of your child. We will only proceed when they are comfortable – if they have demonstrated sufficient understanding of the lesson objectives and artistic concepts, completion of the artwork in the given time frame is secondary.
